Hosts for the evening were two 1998 Silver Circle Honorees, Jorie Lueloff, former WMAQ-TV news anchor and Harry Porterfield, ABC/7News reporter.

The Silver Circle was established by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to recognize outstanding individuals who have devoted a quarter of a century or more to the television industry and have made a significant contribution to Chicago broadcasting.

This year, we were honored to have six outstanding inductees.  They were:

Rich Koz, famous for "Svengoolie," the horror-movie host at WCIU-Channel 26. Presenter: Neal Sabin.

John Martin, a former film and videotape editor at WMAQ-Channel 5 who retired in 1999. Presenters:  Susan Bunda and Linda Yu.

Frank Mathie, who has worked for 37 years as a reporter at WLS-Channel 7.   Presenter: Joel Daly.

Don Norton, the late producer/director who worked with WBBM-Channel 2 and the former WBKB-TV. Had an outstanding 51-year career. Presenter: Joyce Gallagher.

Tom Skilling, chief meteorologist at WGN-Channel 9.  Presenter:  Harry Volkman.

Tom Weinberg, independent producer and the creator of "Image Union," WTTW-Channel 11's weekly showcase for film and video artists.  Presenter: Robert Feder.

The Silver Circle celebration was a very special evening. Attendees were able to mix with the old and the new of television's Chicago community and honor our colleagues. We hope to see you next year!
