Remembering Norm Potash

He might have been just another one of the faceless legion of behind the scenes workers who quietly make television happen every day. But Norm Potash was an exceptional guy, a wisecracking, tough talking and all knowing TV maven who taught a generation of producers and anchors how to finesse the major sports stories of the last four decades. He worked first at WGN and later at WBBM-TV where he held the job of sports producer for the last 25 years.

Norm fought a courageous battle against lung cancer. He kept coming to work despite a grueling regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. Along with his encyclopedic memory, he was a master joke teller with perfect comedic timing, a talent that came in handy under the intense pressure of never-ending daily deadlines. Norm never stopped caring about his work or took his role as a mentor lightly. He will be missed.
