He might have been just another one of the faceless legion of behind the scenes workers who quietly make television happen every day. But Norm Potash was an exceptional guy, a wisecracking, tough talking and all knowing TV maven who taught a generation of producers and anchors how to finesse the major sports stories of the last four decades. He worked first at WGN and later at WBBM-TV where he held the job of sports producer for the last 25 years. Norm fought a courageous battle against lung cancer. He kept coming to work despite a grueling regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. Along with his encyclopedic memory, he was a master joke teller with perfect comedic timing, a talent that came in handy under the intense pressure of never-ending daily deadlines. Norm never stopped caring about his work or took his role as a mentor lightly. He will be missed.
