It’s goodnight and good news… John Whelan, veteran producer and versatile writer at CBS2 Chicago is retiring.
He began his career in broadcasting at WCCO Radio before switching
to television at Miami’s WTVJ as a writer and week end reporter. John
managed to sandwich in stints at WJLA, New Hampshire Public Television
and an assistant professorship at the University of Illinois before
joining WBBM-TV in 1983. There he wrote for and produced every show and
many sweeps series. John and his wife are relocating to Houston to keep an eye on their beloved grandchildren.
