A new movie will open in October and November that is particularly relevant to anyone interested in women's health issues or reproductive rights.  Set in 1950s London, VERA DRAKE paints an extraordinary portrait of a selfless woman who is completely devoted to her working class family and community and who secretly helps women induce miscarriages for unwanted pregnancies.   VERA DRAKE raises the level of debate on the emotional and controversial issue of abortion by questioning how society deals with guilt and innocence. 
 
VERA DRAKE is directed by Mike Leigh who was nominated for Academy AwardsR for TOPSY TURVY and SECRETS & LIES and features a ground-breaking performance by Imelda Staunton (BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE).  VERA DRAKE won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival in addition to the award for Best Actress to Imelda Staunton.
