THE KITE RUNNER

Based one on of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, “The Kite Runner” is a profoundly emotional tale of friendship, family, devastating mistakes and redeeming love. In a divided country on the verge of war, two childhood friends, Amir and Hassan, are about to be torn apart forever. It’s a glorious afternoon in Kabul and the skies are bursting with the exhilarating joy of a kite-fighting tournament. But in the aftermath of the day’s victory, one boy’s fearful act of betrayal will mark their lives forever and set in motion an epic quest for redemption.

Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster (STRANGER THAN FICTION, FINDING NEVERLAND and MONSTER’S BALL) brings to life Khaled Hosseini’s bestseller with a globally diverse cast and crew. The result is a journey into a new world – through a universal human story that speaks to anyone who has ever yearned for a second chance to make a change and find forgiveness.

IFP Chicago Meet the Filmmaker Series Presents:

THE SWING

The screening will be followed by Q&A's and panel discussion with Screen Door Films and Panasonic, moderated by John Iltis.

The Story
Jacob King’s life hasn’t changed much over the years. His family is long gone and the endless upkeep of his ranch keeps him busy – when he isn’t in the local taverns trying to erase the memory of one fateful night…As the years melt away so do the memories of his wife Sara and daughter Lizzie – who’s laughter from the yard grows fainter and fainter with each passing day…But what he’s about to find is that sometimes – as hard as you might try to forget the past, it has a way of coming back to find you.

The Film
With the shoot location hundreds of miles away from the nearest production facility, post house, film lab, and almost 10 miles from the nearest source of electricity, Screen Door Films relied solely on Panasonic’s latest P2 HD Technology to produce a new form of Media Entertainment – the Mini Feature. This discussion will cover the Film as well as techniques employed using this new technology (wilderness optional).

The Panel
Producers Bryan Carmody and John Versical, DP Kimmer Olesak. With Zacuto’s, Steve Weiss and a Panasonic representative, moderated by John Iltis.

Lars and the Real Girl

Written by "Six Feet Under" scribe Nancy Oliver, Lars and the Real Girl is a heartfelt comedy starring Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling as Lars Lindstrom, a loveable introvert whose emotional baggage keeps him from fully embracing life. After years of what is almost solitude, he invites Bianca, a friend he met on the Internet, to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and his wife Karen (Emily Mortimer), and they are stunned. They don't know what to say to Lars or Bianca - because she is a life-size doll, not a real person, and he is treating her as though she is alive. They consult the family doctor Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson), who explains this is a delusion he's created - for what reason she doesn't yet know, but they should all go along with it. What follows is an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him.
