SUMMER NUTS is part of the IFP/Chicago Rough Cut Screening Series.
Rough Cuts is a screening program designed for works in progress.
Summer Nuts is a comedic feature looking for feedback and constructive criticism.
SUMMER NUTS is a full length comedy feature in the documentary style, much
like WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, or BEST IN SHOW. It centers around a small midwestern
summer stock theater that has fallen on hard times. In order to combat their
plummeting ticket sales, the theater has decided to produce their own show,
based on The Old Testament, and to become more active in their local community.
One of the projects they take on is forming a softball team to play in a
citywide men's league.
They turn to JERRY, the theater's technical director, to head up
the new team. He assembles his rag tag crew from actors, crew people, and
various other employees. Together they form the Summer Nuts, the worst team in
the history of softball. As the season unfolds, the question is not whether the
Nuts will win the league championship. It is whether they will manage to win
even ONE game.

VENUS tells the story of Maurice and Ian, a pair of veteran actors
(Peter O’Toole and Leslie Phillips), who never quite hit the big time.
Now in their "golden years," they continue to work, though the jobs are
far from glamorous. But their comfortable routine and witty banter over
breakfast in a favorite café is disrupted by the arrival of Ian’s
grand-niece, Jessie (newcomer Jodie Whittaker).
Jessie quickly tries her great-uncle’s patience, but Maurice is
absolutely taken with the young woman and proceeds to show her the
cultural sights of London. As Maurice tries to give Jessie the benefit
of his experience, he is surprised to discover how very little he
actually knows about himself now that his life is drawing to a close.
Jessie, who had arrived with an enormous chip on her shoulders, slowly
learns from Maurice the value of respect—for herself as well as others.
Venus also stars Richard Griffiths and Vanessa Redgrave.
Venus, a Free Range Films production for FilmFour, the UK Film
Council’s Premiere Fund and Miramax Films is directed by Roger Michell
(The Mother, Notting Hill) from an original screenplay by Hanif
Kureishi (The Mother, My Beautiful Laundrette) and produced by Kevin
Loader. Executive producers are Scott Rudin, Tessa Ross, Miles Ketley
and Charles Moore.
