HOME GROWN SHORTS

Wednesday, November 15, 2006 – 7 pm - Total running time: 91 mins.
Facets Multi-Media, 1517 W. Fullerton, Chicago

Celebrating the contributions to cinema by local artists, this program offers eight exciting films that range from thought-provoking experimental works to tension-driven dramas by homegrown talents from Chicago and Illinois.
In the stylish Zoetrope (Joe Fournier, 6 min.), made in art deco-style animation set to jazz, a worker drone delivers himself from the tedium of the everyday with a handful of office supplies and a bit of imagination. Forgetting Betty (Robert Postrozny and James Anderson, 10 min.) weighs the joys of living life against the fears of aging when a 96-year -old widow spends a fleeting day with her grandson. Psychosis may offer the only salvation in Middle, Life (Chris Nelson, 9 min.). An Open Door (Sean Jourdan, 19 min.) tells the story of a failing marriage and a fading mind, in which recovery lies in the acknowledgement of an unspeakable secret.  Merci (Raul Cales, 13 min.) evokes the small and large ties that bind as a French WW-II survivor unexpectedly encounters a man from her past on busy street. In Drive Radio (Justin Hayward, 9 min.) a late-night radio talk show host is faced with an ethical dilemma that can only be resolved by the imperative that the show must go on. A quirky critique of the excessive demands of Church and State, Cranium Theater (Jason Sandri, 7 min.) presents a brain farmer who thrives in spite of the pillaging of the fruits of his labor. Kubuku Rides (This is It) (Terry Kinney, 18 min.) affords an unblinking view of a household breaking down under the ravages of alcoholism, as seen through the eyes of an eight-year-old boy.
