Control Room TV Academy Members are invited to the IFP/Chicago Facets Film Series Presentation of CONTROL ROOM - Wednesday, June 9, 7:00pm

Facets Multi-Media, 1517 W. Fullerton, Chicago

Al Jazeera: an independent news network that’s only seven years old, but today is the most popular source of information in the Arab world. The network has managed to infuriate all sides in the Middle East conflagration: it’s been banned by some Islamic nations and denounced by the Bush administration (for broadcasting footage of American POWs in Iraq). When an Al Jazeera reporter was killed by a U.S. bomb in 2003, serious questions were raised about whether the administration was targeting media whose viewpoint was not the “embedded” one.  With exclusive behind the scenes access to Al Jazeera, American journalists, and the players at Central Command, CONTROL ROOM takes an unprecedented look at the business of war.  Uniquely qualified with a cross-cultural perspective, Egyptian-American filmmaker Director Jehane Noujaim (Co-director of STARTUP.COM), travels to the headquarters of Al Jazeera and U.S. Central Command to capture the staging of the war in Iraq and media's vital role in writing history.  Director Jehane Noujaim in attendance. Pre-Screening Workshop at 5:30 pm at Facets with Jehane. To RSVP for the workshop only, write This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .  In English and Arabic with English subtitles.
