Critical Viewers Program
The Chicago/
Midwest Chapter of the TV Academy participates extensively in a public service
initiative called Creating Critical Viewers. CCV is a media literacy program
for students. Since 1995, this chapter has donated more than 1200 curriculum
guides and videos to schools, teachers, and organizations. Creating Critical
Viewers teaches young people how to watch television with a critical eye to
news gathering, production techniques, stereotypes, and conflict resolution.Chicago/Midwest
CCV works with schools and other educational and non-profit organizations
in the Chicago area and suburbs, surrounding Illinois counties, northern Indiana,
and southern Wisconsin. In one special partnership with News in Education (NIE)
and the Chicago Tribune, CCV created student supplements and teacher curriculum
guides for grades 4 - 8, which were based on the original program materials.
Over 26,000 students participated in the program.
