Chicago/Midwest Scholarship Programs

1) College Scholarships - For students currently enrolled in College/Graduate Programs

The Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) is offering four scholarships of $4,000 each for the 2008-2009 academic year: The Ephraim Family scholarship, The Sharon A. Palermo Memorial scholarship, The Tom Skilling scholarship, and the NATAS Board of Governors scholarship.

The scholarships have been established by the Board of Governors to assist and encourage talented students committed to careers in the television industry—made in conjunction with some of Chicago’s television legends as principal donors.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of professional potential and commitment. Applicants are required to complete and return application materials by Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Update: The deadline has been extended to Monday, April 21st.  Applications postmarked by the 21st will be accepted.  The scholarshp application is the same for all four scholarships.

2008 College Scholarship Application

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must:

* Be enrolled in an accredited college or university within the ADI (area of dominant influence) of the television stations within the Chicago/Midwest chapter jurisdiction OR be a relative of a member in good standing of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the Television Academy. The television markets that the Chicago/Midwest Chapter covers are: Chicago, IL; Rockford, IL; Peoria-Bloomington, IL; Milwaukee, WI; Madison, WI; Green Bay, WI; Wausau, WI; and South Bend-Elkhart, IN. Contact the Television Academy office to clarify any details in regard to the chapter's ADI or scholarship eligibility requirements.

* Have attained senior level status, in a bachelor’s degree program, as of the Fall term of 2008 OR be enrolled in a graduate degree program in that term.

* Be able to demonstrate a course of study that supports the intention to pursue a career in the television industry.


 

 

2) College Scholarships- For High School students entering College

The Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Television Academy is offering two $2500 high school scholarships to current high school seniors: The Donald & Lorena Meier scholarship & the 2008 Silver Circle Scholarship.

The scholarships have been established by the Board of Governors to assist and encourage talented high school seniors preparing to attend post-secondary institutions and who are committed to careers in the television industry. The application is the same for both scholarships. Deadline: March 24, 2008

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must:

** Have attained 2008/09 senior level status in high school.

** Be able to demonstrate a planned course of study in a college or university that supports the intention to pursue a career in the television industry. Applicants are required to complete and return the

3) National Scholarships

The Foundation of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awards one $40,000 college scholarship to a high school student planning to pursue a career in television or a related field each year. Deadline for 2007 is November 5, 2007. The John Cannon Memorial Scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior planning to major in communications at a four-year college or university.
